My journey is likely relatable to many of your own experiences. I followed a very traditional (for my generation) path to perceived success, graduating high school, selecting a university, establishing residency in the state (Utah in this case) to achieve the lower tuition rate, and finalizing that chapter with a degree in Finance. To pay for college, I worked full time in my career field of Credit Management within the construction industry.
I felt great about the boxes I was checking and commitment to the 12+ hour days I was pulling off for many years. It was a good look, right?
Fast forward 10 years, inserting a husband, husband’s military career, a couple of small kids, and homeschooling. This life was feeling very heavy and no longer sustainable. Did I listen to my gut telling me to take a step back? No. I continued to force the career and demands placed on me by corporate, advancing up the chain and continuing to find value in myself through productivity, at the extreme level.
Now that my husband is retired and my kids are growing older, I realized the need to turn inward and spend time evaluating my choices and need to pivot into the next chapter of my life. At home, we made some risky and scary decisions to move into rural Utah, build an off-grid ranch, acquire several farm animals, to include alpacas, yaks, horses and chickens. “Chickens are the gateway animal.”
After successfully making the urban to rural transition and continuing to explore more of my potential over an 18-month period, I realized that my career in corporate America needed a face lift. I needed to challenge myself to go “all in” on everything.
I am grateful for this opportunity to help others navigate similar situations and environments as they analyze their future and need for something more meaningful. As a Career Ownership Coach, I am beyond excited to connect with others looking for growth and encouragement. I sincerely look forward to this next chapter and meeting many new people on their own journey!
